Boxing day foreverrrrr

  • Dec. 26th, 2009 at 8:26 PM
ok. i can't remember how much i spent. but i'm going to have to return like 3/4 of the things i bought because they're mostly random impulse buys and i don't think i can afford to keep all of them. also i would like to kiss and make out with the return policy here. its absolutely pro-consumer and so so good to chronic unhealthy shoppers (like me).

Last night in SIngapore

  • Dec. 27th, 2009 at 2:46 AM

Dear :

Thank you! Had a great great time here, checked out many amazing places, reconnected with old friends, met new acquaintances, bought lots of lovely stuff, and of course had way more yummy food then I should have (more about these later). Due to my short time here, unfortunately did not get to meet up with youko, michelle, weiteng, huixiang, jeremy, sharmie, qingyi and zahirah (the list goes on but these are the ppl Ive had plans with, which dint come through in the end :( ) Also, dint get to check out hackerspace, haji lane, and red dot museum. I suppose that leaves plenty for next time.

So goodbye Singapore, I wonder when I'll see you again, maybe soon maybe never, but I'll always remember you fondly. Take care while Im gone, till later!

Ps. dq i like this version better, it sounds less sad and more hopeful

有些我以为早已遗忘的感觉,
又渐渐渗入心头里。
真的不想再陷入一个难以自拔的深渊,
只想简简单单,无忧无虑地度过我的假期。

boxing day thoughts 1

  • Dec. 26th, 2009 at 10:02 PM
a merry boxing day to all:)

~
I just got back from thailand on xmas eve after a 10 day trip with 10 of my forever-crazy 06S76 mates.will write up an entry about it soon.
suddenly i realise that i missed the class alot, especially after the trip.
<3 those crap and talk cocks/stupid ideas/spontaneous fun/sweet surprises.

~~
it's really nice to be in a holiday mode,
having fun on a trip or chilling-out at home,
away from all the worries of studies.
i must treasure the rest of the 2 months to come.

but amidst the enjoyment,
which serve as temporary escape for many things that i've yet to really face,
i'm glad that i had some time alone,
to think about some things.
some feelings really shouldnt be pent up,
they'll just eat into you.
crying is actually a good release of those built-up emotions.

that day in krabi,
alone on a swing, i watched a dad carry his little girl, entertaining her inquisitive mind. that reminded me of my own childhood days when my parents were still young, spoiling the little young me.
suddenly i realised how old i've grown to be, and how old they have aged.
some things in life are just inevitable, we have to face it, live with it.

Chinese Food and WIne

  • Dec. 26th, 2009 at 3:34 AM
"There are several French, German, and Californian wines that are well suited to Chinese cuisine.>

When choosing a wine, consider where the various dishes you are sampling originated. China is a huge country, with regional differences in climate and resources, and each region has developed its own culinary style.

For highly spiced Szechuan dishes, try a Gewurztraminer. Gewurztraminer literally means "spice grapes" and the California variant in particular has a "spicy-peach" flavour with a hint of ginger. Other possibilities include a French Puilly Fousse or a Sauvignon Blanc.

Known as China's "haute cuisine," Cantonese dishes are much more subtly seasoned. For the best result try a sweet fruity wine, such as a German Riesling. Meanwhile, a red Bordeaux is particularl appropriate for Shanghai cuisine. Dishes such as Lion's Head - large pork meatballs, topped with cabbage to suggest a lion's mane - are quite rich, and the tannin in the wine cuts the grease. A Merlot works well with Peking cuisine, which often features heavier meats like duck and beef. So does a burgundy such as Pinot Noir."

blooo mountains wonderland

  • Dec. 24th, 2009 at 2:03 PM

the last 2 days were spent out of sydney, more than 120km away. we took the train to blue mountains and it's a must go according to seniors and friends who toured australia.

the 3 sisters at katoomba
no doubt they were right. the view was very very nice. after taking photos of the 3 sisters we decided to have a walk along the ridge of part of the mountains, starting from the giant staircase. the staircase was long and steep and going down was really a chore. not to say i was carrying my crumpler along. really regretted it, should have carried a backpack instead.. sling bags ain't good for long distances. my thighs were shivering as we went down the staircase. but the experience was inmemorable.

after completing the giant staircase we wanted to take a group photo. but alex's camera just dropped from the platform after he set the timer and it's spoilt. feel really sad for him. but no choice we had to move on. we walked the trail which was like around 2.5km but it took us forever. and finally we reached the scenic world where we took the railway and the skycable. they were so so lah, not very scary.

after meeting the rest of them at the railway we proceeded to check in at blackheath where it was still pretty early. then we had a spontaneous decision to watch the sunset. we followed the map that the inn gave us and walked. it was a long walk, around 30 min before we hit the lookout point. as we walked we were afraid that the sun would set too fast. and as we walked we realised that the sun was behind us as it set, which wasnt a good thing. nevertheless we continued to rush to the look out point.

and it was a worthwhile trip because the sunset view was good, even than the view at katoomba! it's like wow. you're standing on what used to be a waterfall (:

and we figured that, since the sun was behind us when it's setting, it'll be in front of us during sunrise! so we had a crazy plan again: to wake up at 4.30am and catch the sunrise which was supposedly at 5.45am. we did that, and managed to hit the lookout on time. but haven't 天刚破晓 yet. so not so bad. we waited until the crack of dawn:

it's just so epic. like omg. first time in my life that i watched such a spectacular and magnificent sunrise :D

when the day got brighter we decided to explore more of the area before we checked out from the inn. we went to this bridal veils falls lookout point, which promised us yet another great view of the blue mountains. we were like woah woah woah. seriously the feeling's indescribable.

now im back. tired max, legs aching. i think we walked like at least 20km over the 2 days.

but i guess it's all worth it.

now it's time to relax and recharge for shopping next week =D

Snowed in

  • Dec. 22nd, 2009 at 1:24 PM
Perhaps choosing not to go home for christmas this year was both a good and bad idea.

Lets start with what's bad first: i'm home-alone. having the sun set at 3.30 minus whatever cheeriness the sun might bring is not funny. slipping and falling on the road because i mistakenly wore my pair of high heeled boots out is not only tragic in itself, but because i smashed the lovely hot muffins i bought with my flailing hands while falling makes the entire situation even more poignant. not to mention i have to keep calling home like doing some sort of reporting duty to reassure my overly anxious mom that I'M FINE AND COPING WELL hur hur.

Tell you what's good: i make myself fantastical desk-bound meals because i have the whole kitchen and all its equipment/utensils to myself. i take long hot showers and soak in the bathtub with rose petals( ok this i'm exaggerating although i'd like to drop by loccitane on boxing day to buy some bath bubbles on sale) and read several pages of my book before getting out when my skin starts to become wrinkly. turning up the volume on my iHome speakers so that ingrid michaelson could be heard everywhere in the house from my room; skyping loverboy in the kitchen while making beef stew and saying 'i love you' at the top of my voice without being discreet; leaving dishes unwashed in the sink till several hours later - basically going about life without the need to be considerate because there is simply no one to be considerate towards. i never realised until it happened - but this is actually quite liberating.

Merry Christmas <3

Train - Drops of Jupiter

  • Dec. 21st, 2009 at 6:48 AM
Now that she's back in the atmosphere
With drops of Jupiter in her hair, hey
She acts like summer and walks like rain
Reminds me that there's a time to change, hey
Since the return from her stay on the moon
She listens like spring and she talks like June, hey, hey

But tell me, did you sail across the sun?
Did you make it to the Milky Way
To see the lights all faded
And that heaven is overrated?

Tell me, did you fall for a shooting star?
One without a permanent scar
And then you missed me
While you were looking for yourself out there?

Now that she's back from that soul vacation
Tracing her way through the constellation, hey
She checks out Mozart while she does Tae-Bo
Reminds me that there's room to grow, hey

Now that she's back in the atmosphere
I'm afraid that she might think of me as
Plain ol' Jane told a story about a man
Who was too afraid to fly so he never did land

But tell me, did the wind sweep you off your feet?
Did you finally get the chance
To dance along the light of day
And head back to the Milky Way?

And tell me, did Venus blow your mind?
Was it everything you wanted to find?
And then you missed me
While you were looking for yourself out there

Can you imagine no love, pride, deep-fried chicken
Your best friend always sticking up for you
Even when I know you're wrong?

Can you imagine no first dance, freeze-dried romance
Five-hour phone conversation
The best soy latte that you ever had, and me?

But tell me, did the wind sweep you off your feet?
Did you finally get the chance
To dance along the light of day
And head back toward the Milky Way?

But tell me, did you sail across the sun?
Did you make it to the Milky Way
To see the lights all faded
And that heaven is overrated?

And tell me, did you fall for a shooting star?
One without a permanent scar
And then you missed me
While you were looking for yourself?

And did you finally get the chance
To dance along the light of day?
And did you fall for a shooting star?
Fall for a shooting star?
And now you're lonely looking for yourself out there

N.B. this has absolutely nothing gotta do with what i feel now. i have been finding this song for quite some time and finally found it by chance!

2nd week in australia

  • Dec. 19th, 2009 at 4:51 AM
it's the weekend.

and im awake at like, 6.45am? this is ridiculous! im awake and im surviving on like, say 5 hrs of sleep? im feeling cranky the moment i wake up already. im awake partially because the sun shone onto my room at 6 (i stupidly forgot to pull down the blinds) and more because im hungry. the dinner last night wasn't enough at all, my stomach was like growling at midnight!

i seem to be eating much more in australia than in singapore. it must be the weather. the cold weather makes my stomach churn faster than ever. every meal that i ate seems to be twice the others.. this is bad. i saw the effects on thurs when we went shopping. sarah said i looked as though im two months pregnant! omg..

anyway school has somewhat started, im grateful for that. there's aircon and no mosquitoes and leeches and ticks and all. but still im suffering from lack of sleep. this is worse than NUS. i sleep late and wake up early. like after 12 and before 7 cus i have to help out with the cooking. yea helping out's pretty fun, but pretty tiring i guess. i think we all very 对不起 ivan. he's the one who keeps waking up earlier than others to help prepare the food and he nv really complains about it, though i can see that he's really really tired. and sleeping at 12 cus of the amount of homework that they give. come on, like journals everyday? and 4 reading reports? 4 lab reports? 3 museum reports? 1 animal report? 4 essays? like huh. seriously damn shiong. and 5 hrs of history lesson from 1 to 6 isnt helping alot yea.

and there's some problems with a few of us right now. dont think im in any situation to comment about it. but it's inevitable that when a group is too big, we tend to split up. and then both groups will look at each other will different view points because of the split up. the faces turn black and everyone does nonsense to one another.

but wait. how about those who are caught in the middle? i think we're affected to yea.

so some times, just take note not to make life too difficult for the other group. after all, we have 3 more weeks to go.

going off already.. it's 8am. not really the best way to start the morning.

"I do not know if I will be making back alive, but if I do, let’s meet up soon."

Don't exist.

miserable day at work.

stupid clients who doesnt take the initiative to make appointments to sign documents made the entire office rush like mad women all around the island and churning out docs in the office just so that the case can be completed today (which is the last day for completion).

RAWR.

tagged along w my boss.. so that i can be her human GPS haha. dunno wad happened to her old gps. but anyway. was quite panicky. cus i dun drive, so basically i dun really understand how the expressway works. was referring to the overall map of the island and trying to figure out how to get into/out of the different expressways. was at jurong and wanted to go amk st 64. wanted to take the KJE -> BTE -> SLE, but figured that have to enter via PIE to get into KJE.. but didnt know which lane to take.. so my boss just went straight into PIE when i was trying to figure out where we were... den i stunnedddddddd when i realised we missed the lane into KJE. so immediately changed plan. took the longer route.. which was from PIE, exit at jalan toapayoh into CTE =x. pretended that was the route i planned out hahaha but owells got to the place we wanted to go so okayyy lo.

scary shit. hurhur. felt like the blind leading the blind =x haha..

THEN. by the time we reached the bank (at amk) and collected the COs it was already 5.10.. and i was suppsoed to be at hdb hub in toapayoh at 5.30 for completion. but i had NONE of the documents other than the CO with me, so had to make a trip back to the office first. by the time i get out of office it was like. 5.25... reached there at 6.05, completed at 6.10... got back to office at 6.40, left office at 6.50, met zhixuan in orchard at 7.10.

like oh my goodness.

but okayyy todays shopping trip was quite alright. :) bought my black leggings and black/red belts. and a new pair of earrings!

still need new shoes though..

and i got my new bags!!! sorry penny forgot to give u the $$!!! >.<

okay it's late. and im still having a splitting headache.
better sleep.
nitex

After training, darcie and i went for katong laksa at holland v! it was heaven man. hahahha, but there goes all the training. and darcie was talking about how coke zero had no fat and calories in it at all. hahahadamn nonsense. i should stop the sugar intake, its unhealthy! heh aft that we went to HSA, she donated blood while i watched. the health care workers must have thought i was some weirdo cause i insisted on watching her while they took her blood. it was damn eye opener! hahaha. i shall start donating too! 25 times and you get to have your name on their river of life board. :D
